Photographing your own kids...

Photographing your own children is by far the most challenging process to date! While Isabella is not too hard yet, Giavanna is nearly impossible...there is something about knowing that her mommy is the one behind the camera that brings out the "I'm not going to do this just because you want me to" attitude.  Although it may be a challenge, I am determined to get some great shots to post on the blog.  We will be taking a vacation to Disney World soon and hope to have lots of work to show when I return!

In the meantime...here is my baby girl on her 3 month birthday!

Introducing Mia Rae Photography

January 4,2013:
Hello! My name is Kelly Coda and I live in Pittsburgh, PA.  Taking portrait photographs has been a passion of mine for a very long time now, but I never considered doing it as anything more than a hobby.  In 2010 I had my first daughter, and I became obsessed with getting the best picture I could of her...you know, that absolutely flawless picture like you see in magazines. I received a flyer in the mail for a portrait package bundle at a very affordable price from a local chain photography studio.  I could not wait for the appointment for her pictures to be taken, I was after all picturing that flawless photo in the perfect frame hanging in the perfect spot in my house!!!  Then it happened...the appointment came...and went....in less than an hour. It was filled with plain white or black backgrounds, my baby girl just sitting there with a few generic looking props. The photographer rushed through each shot taking what she thought was the best because she had another appointment scheduled 1/2 hour later. I knew my little girl did not look happy and natural, but to the lady taking the pictures if there was a hint of a smile it was good enough.  We left the studio after spending well over $100.00 which was a heck of a lot more than the deal that was on the flyer which was why we went there in the first place...I mean no matter how "just okay" the pictures are, when it comes to your child you will pretty much re-mortgage your house just to get that perfect picture.  How many of us has this happened to?? You go to those places planning on spending just the $29.95 that the package offers, you end up spending around $100.00 and end up with mediocre photographs of your children.  That brings us up to current times...I now have a 2 year old and 2 month old and am a stay at home mom.  I have decided to take a hobby that I love, turn it into a job, and use it as a way to help other parents obtain that artistic and perfect photograph of their child without having to re-mortgage their home multiple times!  I am just getting started and it will be a while before things are officially up and running, but I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and document the journey into my new life venture!
